Pastizzi (cheesecakes) are filled with ricotta cheese cake that is fried and served hot. These can be bought in small specialized suppliers that most of the garbage from the streets of Malta and Gozo.
The love of Mediterranean flavors such as olives, tomatoes, olive oil and the bread has led to the opening of several wine bars in Malta, especially in the cities of Valletta and Birgu features. Many of the restaurants in the island specialize in typical Mediterranean food, especially in Italy. So, pizza, pasta and seafood are probably one of the most common ones found in most of restaurants in Malta. A major element here is the mix of Mediterranean cuisine, with ingredients of Malta as most vegetables, meat and fruits are locally freshly cultivated and selected. The variety of fish found off the coast of Malta can be seen in the Marsaxlokk market every Sunday morning, where fishermen local display their fish on sale for Sunday lunch!
Oriental cuisine and sushi is also very well justified throughout the island. The most common are the typical Chinese restaurants specializing in dishes such as spring rolls and wontons, egg fried rice, noodles, sweet and sour pork, duck, etc.. Sushi and Japanese cuisine also has become popular in recent years and can be purchased both for carry outlets, or in elegant formal restaurants.
Life Cafe, in particular in cities such as Valletta and Sliema, is very popular and offers the buyer, the company man, or transient perfect opportunity to take a hot cappuccino or glass of wine, accompanied a salad, but light dish of pasta, sushi, or perhaps a divine dessert, while taking in the Mediterranean sun.
